My favorite cellist - enjoy!

28/04/2010

I love being a girl!

No, I'm not a feminist. But I'm a girl, a woman, who's quite strong, stubborn, hard working, radical and kind (most of the time) and I want to continue talking about girls, women because it's important. For all of us and our future.
My younger son sent me a link to the first video. He said I'd find it interesting.
He knows me! Do you like these kind of talks? Do we need these kind of talks? Or you couldn't care less?

Kavita Ramdas directs the Global Fund for Women, the largest foundation in the world supporting women's human rights across all borders.

Investing in women can unlock infinite potential around the globe. But how can women walk the line between Western-style empowerment and traditional culture? Kavita Ramdas of the Global Fund for Women talks about three encounters with powerful women who fight to make the world better -- while preserving the traditions that sustain them.

Eve Ensler created the ground-breaking Vagina Monologues, whose success propelled her to found V-Day -- a movement to end violence against women and girls everywhere.
In this passionate talk, Eve Ensler declares that there is a girl cell in us all -- a cell that we have all been taught to suppress. She tells heartfelt stories of girls around the world who have overcome shocking adversity and violence to reveal the astonishing strength of being a girl.

Do you please people? Why?

undercover in the red-light district of Casablanca...

I googled information about this street...Lalla means Miss. Of course I wanted to know who is Lalla Yacout...

I went down to the hotel reception to ask if they know - of course they didn't.
They know the name of the street but that's it.
I wanted to know. I googled more. I found almost nothing...
Finally I found myself on Metropolis TV in Netherlands!

"The editorial team of Metropolis is based at VPRO TV in The Netherlands.
VPRO is a Dutch public broadcast organization with a longstanding documentary tradition.
Many of our prize winning productions have been aired at festivals world wide and screened by broadcasters all over the world.
Since the early days of the internet VPRO has also been a leading pioneer in new media in The Netherlands."

(you need 10 minutes to look what it's about...)

your WOrds of my IMAge #64:

Don't give up...

Going up?
Or down?

Be brave and step on the stairs!
You´ll never know where they´ll lead you!

Stairs in the alley on a five minute break, stairing at each other.

  JAWhite
Up and down was fine, it was the round and round that made them mad at me.

I used to know someone who was so crooked that the ideal job for them
was laying carpets for spiral staircases.

Tunsin kerran erään henkilön joka oli niin kiero että ammatinvalinnan testeissä
hänen ihanneammatikseen tuli kierreportaiden mattojen asentaja.

Here Rests In Honored Glory All the Steps You Never Took...

And I thought it was frustrating when clothes hangers got tangled.

and she's climbing a stairway to heaven.

Sometimes, when the path isn't clear,
you just need to create your own way and hope for the best.

There is no stairways to heaven,
they are at the stairways' heaven!

pouring tea...

Couple of days ago we met our friend in a cafe - he drinks tea -
my husband and I drink espresso, double! :)
Here's a series of pictures how he poured the tea from the pot (VERY hot pot!)
into the class...

Voilà!

Hey boys, grow up!

Yesterday was a big day for local football fans.
Wydad Casablanca (red)

and Raja Casablanca (green)
played at 3 pm.
Groups of drumming and singing fans were marching to the stadium
from 10 am!

Maroc-football.com: In the 108th derby of Morocco's Premier League,
Raja Casablanca scored a sole goal to overthrow Wydad from leadership
and took the reins of the League.
In a breathtaking game with much at stake as the winner goes to the top position,
the two soccer poles of Casablanca clashed in the midfield, creating few goal opportunities and demonstrating an average show.

Wikipedia: In 2000, the stadium was renovated a second time because of Morocco's candidacy to organise the 2010 World Cup,
green- and red-coloured seats were installed in the stadium
reducing the capacity to its current size, 55,000.

I saw how the guys were throwing stones and kicking that fence.
Why do you have to be aggressive and destroy places?
What kind of satisfaction did you get?
Grow up!
Sports should be fun, not a war or battlefield for the fans!

UPDATED 22.4.2010
Fans would give up food, maybe a limb, for World Cup glory by Reuters
"More than 40 percent offered to give up dating for a year, while seven percent said they would gladly give up their job to see their country win the title.
A further four percent were willing to give away a body part.
The survey was conducted by U.S.-based international calling firm VIP Communications Inc (www.JoinVIP.com) ahead of the South African extravaganza featuring 32 nations.
It found that a majority of English respondents -- 93 percent -- would give up food for a week to see England win, while some
70 percent of Italians would give up their job for an Italian victory.
Americans were most willing to sacrifice their homes, while South Koreans were most ready to sacrifice their love life.
And the people least willing to make a sacrifice?

The survey found that only 3 percent of Slovakians would give up anything to improve their country's chances of victory."

----------------------
Good for you Slovakians!!!
In England fans could survive without food for a week, Italians without work! WOW! What's wrong with Italians?
Football is more important than your personal/family life?

espresso s'il vous plait...

Casa is full of coffee shops/cafes/cafeterias/terraces... to have a cup of espresso!
Look at the size of that sugar cube!

Here they insert a coffee capsule into the coffee machine.
Used capsules are automatically ejected into a removable storage drawer each time a new one is inserted so your hands never get wet or dirty when brewing.

Yesterday I asked you what's this top class...

It's SUGAR!
First I thought I got milk/cream with my esprosso but soon realized it was a packet of fine sugar!
It's a very small packet - each side about 3 cm (1.2 inch).

My internet connection has been really bad today.
I couldn't access on Blogger/Google account this afternoon at all.

Tonight we're going to visit our home!
If everything is okay we'll move out from the hotel at the weekend...

14/04/2010

boulevards, beach life and image question...

This is the 'wrong boulevard' we took at the weekend... :)

Hotels, beach clubs, swimming pools...
Many people playing and walking but only a few were swimming...

At home I noticed what that man was doing...No toilets???

Guess what is the most popular restaurant in Casablanca?
Obesity will be a problem here too...

The 'correct boulevard' back to the hotel... :)

AN IMAGE QUESTION
THIS IS TOP CLASS OF........WHAT?

12/04/2010

bits and pieces from Casa...

My blogging is not totally back on track yet.
New thing in our life is that my husband is free at the weekends!
(In Cairo we had Fri-Sat as a weekend so I was ‘free’ to blog on Sunday…)
Here in Casa my husband is totally free from Friday afternoon till Monday morning. No phone calls, no emails to answer...
this is almost shocking for me :)
Yesterday we had a 15 km (9.3 miles) walk! Yes, we took a wrong boulevard...
But we felt great in the evening after a shower - dead tired but so satisfied - we can freely walk again!!!
We had coffee by the sea...sun was shining...and today we both look like tomatoes! :)

Here you can see local 'small taxi' petit taxi. They are everywhere. Some drives are nice and put the meter on but some are trying to fool us because we're foreigners. Not nice. But it's the same everywhere.
Motobecane you know already! :)

"Registered taxis in Casablanca are coloured red and known as petits taxis (small taxis). As is standard Moroccan practice, petits taxis, typically small-four door Fiat Uno or similar cars, provide metered cab service
in the central metropolitan areas." want to read more

a new version of petit taxi...

Yesterday I noticed first this

and then this - kindergarten or pre-school?

As you know I'm a very curious person - do they have snow in Morocco?
I googled...
Yes, there's snow in Morocco!

"The two most popular ski resorts in the country include Oukaimeden and Jebel Mischliffen.
Oukaimeden is perhaps one of the better established ones and it features a ski lift that will take you to a breathtaking 3268 meters above sea level.
Ski Equipment can be rented and there are plenty of mountain trails that you can enjoy if you are not that into downhill skiing.
The resort is usually open between January and February and the hotels provide basic accommodation.
Jebel Mischliffen was opened by the French in the 1950s and has remained in its original state since then." more here

greetings from Casa, Morocco!

Here we are, in Casablanca > Casa, Morocco!
What a beautiful, small city if you compare to Cairo.
But we don't compare because these two cities are totally different!
We've been so happy to be able to walk again! Just out of the hotel door and it's easy to walk to the beach or to the Twin Towers area which is the main shopping area or just to hop in one of many coffee shops...
Twin Center Casablanca Morocco
We found a place to live already, in downtown.
Two years isolated in a compound in Cairo - we want to experience city life again.
The flat is totally renovated, everything is new. Hopefully we'll move in this week...

Weather is perfect...

Life is good!

How about you - all good? Are you on holiday or busy at work/home?
